A Peaceful Way to Start Your Day – Even When You Are Physically and Emotionally Hot

September is an ideal month to reorganize your closet during this transitional period between hot and cold weather and the decreasing sunlight. It’s one of those activities few look forward to, and many just don’t do it!

But oh—Opening a neat closet at the start of your day, with clean clothes that fit well, is like stepping into a pretty meadow with butterflies drifting through the air! It is especially wonderful on emotionally trying days when you need to reach for the thermostat controls.

Here are a few quick tips I shared in my e-newsletter: 1. Decide to donate your clothes to a charity you admire. 2. Get out a sturdy, clean bag to fill with your donations. 3. Fill it with clothes you haven’t worn in a while.

A few other tricks to get through this arduous task include:

Look for clothes in colors that no longer appeal to you. Ask yourself whether you want to wear them again. If not, get rid of them.

Look for clothes that “have seen better days.” Perhaps they have permanent stains or torn areas. Fold them and put them in your donation bag.

Do you have “a bunch of one article of clothing”—for example, white shirts you wore with suits before you retired?

Put any clothes you’ll wear once you lose weight into your donation bag!

Do you have a section of your closet filled with clothes in a color you no longer like? Put them in the bag.

Pull out your shoes and boots. Get rid of any that are no longer safe to wear or no longer fit.

When was the last time you carried certain purses? Out they go. Someone else will treasure them.

Don’t put anything in your donation bag that could hurt someone
