Do you still have palazzo pants in your closet or how about a pheasant blouse or a beaded headband? After researching the fashions for Spring 2015, I went to my jewelry box to see if I still had my beloved apple-seed necklace.  You get the idea for 2015!  But, before you moan – I’ve been there, done that, I have a special invitation for you.

You are cordially invited to a spring fashion workshop for ladies-of-a-certain-age only Sunday, April 12, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or later at Mercer Place Resale Boutique , 1388 S Broadway, Denver, 80210.  Store fashion consultant Sonja Motley will tell us about latest spring fashion trends and how we — ladies-of-a-certain-age — can wear them to our advantage.  Champaign and light refreshments will be served.  This is a Denver first – offering a fashion workshop just for ladies-of-a-certain-age, petite to plus size.  Reservations required.  Please let me know you will come by emailing egeniewhee@aol.com

I certainly can’t wear the cut-off jean shorts I was so so hot in the 1960s and 1970s, but I do like the cut of some of the new fashions because they help to conceal what gravity has done to my” bod” since then. Those palazzo pants are really wonderful. They have elastic or draw-string in the waist that is ideal for waistlines that are no longer 20 inches. More good news – you don’t have to wear 10-inch spike heels with them to be fashionable. Nice strappy sandals (remember hippy sandals?) will do the trick. Strappy sandals are wonderful if you can adjust the straps to accommodate bunions.

Yes, pheasant blouses are in, with embroidery to boot, along with crop tops and all sorts of t-shirts with straight hems and wavy cuts. I have to be careful with pheasant tops that have elastic around the waist because gravity has taken its toll on this 68-year-old body. I sure don’t want to emphasize those bulges! I like many of the crop tops because they are not skin tight. T-shirts are always comfortable. The one thing I have to watch for is tops better worn without a bra. It’s because – again – Mother Nature and gravity! Unless you have had a boob job, I doubt you will want to burn your bra 2015!

Yes, headbands are in the stores. Some have flowers on them and some have beads. I’m skipping the flower ones for sure. My seven-year-old granddaughter would steal them anyway. I do remember wearing a bandana headband and looking fetching! Tiaras are in the stores, too. The last one I wore was to the Thomas Jefferson Prom in 1965. My granddaughter would steal that, too, because it would go great with her princess outfits.

Now, here is my take on colors for Spring 2015! I don’t like them much. If you are a blue or coral gal, you are going to be in hog heaven! Yes, black and white are still popular. Personally, I am board looking like a zebra even though I look dashing in black and white. Leopard is still popular. Sorry, I am more of a Pink Panther.  Here are my names for the fashion colors of Spring 2015: Coral, Nude, Light Turquoise, and Silver Stone. I like the last one because it matches the color of my hair.

Pantone describes its official colors for Spring 2015 as “An eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals take center stage as designers draw from daydreams of simpler times. Remembrances of retro delights, folkloric and floral art, and the magical worlds of tropical landscapes restore a sense of wellbeing.” Wow! Really?

Now, dear ladies-of-a-certain-age I have found a few gems that I want to share with you.  First, can you imagine a fashion workshop just for us?  Can you imagine a fashion consultant addressing our needs specifically?  My first gem is our very own fashion workshop on Sunday, April 12.  My second gem – hold on to your hats – is a Nordstrom Department – that is right – Nordstrom – called the Brass Plum.  Furthermore, hold on to your skirt if you ever still wear one – This department is for juniors!  The Brass Plum Nordstrom Department is friendly, has great fashion and is reasonably priced!! The third gem I offer you is a grouping of clothes called active wear.  You know, yoga pants, t-shirts – hoodies – sandals.

I don’t know about you, but I live in active wear.  Year-round, I put it on for my yoga classes, in the summer I wear it the rest of the week.  It is great for golf, walking the dog, traveling, and playing with grandchildren.  The pants have elastic waists. The tops are tees that work.  Jackets, sweaters and hoodies are part of this group too.  Sandals, trekkers, sneakers and sport Mary Janes are shoe selections that don’t cost a bundle and feel good on your feet.  With a pretty scarf and a tote and some tangly earrings, I feel put together, able to handle the day in comfort. I have found the trick is to find products that work for me.  Cost does not seem to be a good indicator.  I look for fabrics that don’t collect pet hair or ball up.  Pants that don’t slide off my hips.  Shirts I look great in and I don’t have to worry about bra straps because after all I am a lady of t certain age! Yes, I think bra straps are ugly.

I really tried to like the Zella brand at Nordstrom, but they fell off my hips and collected tons of hair from my dog and cat who shed very little.  I visited an Athleta store.  It was interesting.  Once again, I did not see a woman in the store my age and the music was annoying.  There were lots of tight pants.  I don’t wear tight pants anymore even though I have great legs!  I did find a full-length knit dress I liked.  I thought it would be great for grocery shopping, traveling, yard parties and lots of other stuff.  I have heard of PrAna stores.  I visited the website and thought prices were high.  This is not sexy at all.  I have had my best luck at Lands’ End. I also like Eddie Bauer, but I find them a little pricy. Yes, I have some clothes from L.L.Beans, but not many because their quality does not meet my standards.

So, there you have it, Ladies.  `Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph. D. in her book, “Women Who Run With the Wolves,” stated, “Spring always comes.”  Indeed, it has!
